Letter to U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R) Kansas About Teaching Cursive in School

Letter to U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R) Kansas:
Feel free to use it as a model or even send it word for word...
Can you please do something about Common Core eliminating the requirement to teach cursive writing?I am a ... at .... Second-graders want to learn how to sign their name in cursive. But the teachers don't have time to teach it because it's not "required" by the Common Core Standards.Instead they require teachers to teach "keyboarding skills."
So, children won't be able to write in longhand or sign their names. Not to mention they will never be able to read historical documents. The teachers spend so much time on state testing and using educational "technology" they simply don't have time to teach cursive writing, and the Internet Technology community wants us to believe we are "clinging to the past"if we think children should learn to write in cursive.
I didn't learn to type until I was in high school and didn't need to. Children in elementary school have trouble reading, writing, understanding what they read and communicating, verbally and in writing. Why should we let technology take over our children's education?
I really don't think our children must learn to live in a world where the only form of manual writing is printing, where they can simply type an "X" for their signature on a keyboard and where they can never write anything in longhand.
Thanks for listening.
