I Just Woke Up in the Twilight Zone

I just woke up in the Twilight Zone. Today has been a rather long day, in a way, for a Sunday. On the first Sunday of the month, the worship team has lunch together at the church and stays to practice, and we don't usually leave until around 4:00. Which is fine, by the way. In the olden days (19th and 20th century), for many, Sunday was all day church, dinner on the ground and all, then go home in time for bed, I guess, if the Lord was through with us. (I hadn't ever experienced that, but I had heard about it.) The only thing I hadn't done that I wanted to do before bed was write my blog. But I was real tired. Been going to prayer meetings every night for 10 days, taking us up through Wednesday, so I'd had a couple of regular nights, but I was just tired. I'm not saying that going to church wears me out; it usually does not, but I don't usually do anything routinely like that every day for 10 days. Anyway, I decided to take a nap. I don't think I set the timer or the alarm clock or anything, I just tried to take a mental note about what time it was when I laid down so that when I woke up, I would know how long I had slept. I think it was around 5:50 or so. I was thinking "10 'til 6, what time should I get up? Surely, I won't sleep more than an hour at the most. Then it will be around 7:00 and I'll have plenty of time to write and then go to bed.” And then I went out. Next thing I know I'm waking up, and the clock says 7:04. I start to panic. Oh, no. I've overslept! I must have gone down for a nap and stayed asleep all night! I have to leave at 7:30 to get to work on time. Quick, put the kettle on. I pour the water into the cup, empty it into the the kettle, turn on the stove, put the teabag and the tea ball into the cup and go back to my room. I realize I hadn't taken my earrings out, and then I realize I am not in my pajamas, I'm still in my cutoffs and my T-shirt. Weird. Well, I guess I'll just have to have written no blog for yesterday. So, then, wait a minute. Could it still be Sunday night? I'm confused. It looks like morning is breaking outside, but it could also be that it's not quite nighttime yet. If I wait to see if it's getting darker or lighter, I might be late for work, so I call on Siri. "Hey, Siri!" "Mm-hm..." "What time is it?" "It's 7:07 p.m." Wow. So, then, the thought occurred to me, how can you tell if it's half dark and half light at 7:00, if it's a.m or p.m? Well, I guess you can't unless you either wait long enough to see if it's getting darker or if it's getting lighter. Or you call Siri, or whoever it is if you don't have an iPhone. (I would never have a phone that the name of it sounds like a humanoid robot, but that's just me. I'm not big on robots, personally.) So, I have just told you the reason why I said I woke up in the Twilight Zone. I don't know if I described it clearly enough for you to get that, but that was the goal. I don't think anything that weird has happened to me for a long time. It's funny, because I was ready for it to be morning after an hour or so of sleep. I couldn't tell by the way it felt which one it was. I even reset my alarm clock because at one point I thought I had done what I sometimes do, set the alarm for 6:30 p.m. instead of 6:30 a.m. To be honest, at this point, I can't even remember what the alarm was set for; I always change it from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Saturday night. Have you ever done that? Probably not all that, but you may have set your clock for p.m. instead of a.m. by accident and woke up in time anyway. I have had that happen a lot, and when that happens, I always thank the Lord for waking me up, even if I do only have a half an hour to get ready for work. Why does this matter? It doesn't, I suppose, I just wanted to share it. It was tempting to call somebody up and tell them about it because it was that crazy, but I decided to write about it instead. Aren't you glad (wink, wink)? It's kind of a gift because now, I feel like I got a few more hours before bedtime that I thought I had slept through. Well, well, so now I'm back on schedule. My plan is always to be finished writing by 9:00 so I can get ready for bed, maybe read a little before going to sleep. So now I can do that. I better just make sure I set the alarm for a.m. and not p.m. Goodnight all.
