At This Point, What Can We Do?
"But know this, that in the last days [a]perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, [b]unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!" (2 Timothy 3:1-5)
The Democratic Socialists of America are backing Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York. It is a revolutionary movement to bring down the United States system of government. Somehow Generation Z has become enamored with this man's personality and/or blindsided by his lies. Several leading Democrats have endorsed Mamdani including the governor of New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the minority leader of the United States House of Representatives, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders.
I don't know how many of you are aware of the dangerous situation this presents for our republic, but it is time for U.S. citizens to begin participating in government which was meant to be of the people, by the people, and for the people, not ruled by elites and career politicians, and certainly not by “democratic socialists.”
Today is Halloween, and I believe the mayoral election in New York City is the scariest scenario I have ever seen in America in my entire lifetime. I am approximately the same age as many of the college professors who have been teaching Generation Z, who are said to be Mamdani's biggest fans. I was in college when the leftwing Students for a Democratic Society were in the news, stirring up anti-American sentiment and now they are old and gray-headed, but just as boisterous and inflammatory as they were then.
So, what can we do now? I can't vote in New York, but if you live in the city of New York, you can vote for someone other than this man. There are two people running against him, Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. Cuomo is another Democrat and Sliwa is a Republican. It appears that the city of New York has some sort of mental block against Republicans, and they are trying to get Sliwa to drop out of the race to give Cuomo a chance to beat Mamdani.
The problem is this decision will not just affect New York. Perhaps New York will survive this election with a "democratic socialist" for four years, but who knows how it will affect the rest of the country and even the global economy?
I am obviously not an expert in this topic, I only know that socialism is not a good idea for the United States, and I am very concerned. I can do nothing other than express my opinion and pray.
I hope the polls are not an accurate indication of the outcome of this race. The polls told us Hillary Clinton would win the presidential race in 2016, and they have been wrong other times too. Some talking heads have indicated that Mamdani will not win because New Yorkers will not allow it. Others are saying they expect him to win. I do not know the future.
Meanwhile, there are local elections taking place in my home town, and I have already voted. I knew nothing about the school board candidates nor about the city council candidates, because the press utterly failed to inform the citizens of my city. I just voted for Henry McClure for mayor because his opponent is on the city council and has participated in everything wrong that has happened in Topeka's recent history.
Shamefully, there are people who will not cast their vote at all, they will just let the chips fall where they may. This is so frightening to me. Our whole system of government could disintegrate because of this tendency among intelligent people. It makes no sense not to vote. To say, "It doesn't matter, my vote doesn't count, the government is corrupt" is just like saying, "This car is going to hit somebody, it might as well be me. So, I'm just going to go stand in its path."
God help us, America. If this person wins and is mayor for four years, I certainly hope the people of New York City will learn their lesson, but I pray that does not happen. That's all I can say about this. I would hope that they had learned their lesson before learning it the hard way but I'm afraid we have let this cancer in our society grow for too long. I think it's time for a literal "Come to Jesus" moment in America. It can't come too soon. Happy Halloween.
