How a Satanist Leader Follows Satan Without Believing in Him
It's ironic how this individual who is the leader of a satanist group, and who was raised in church, doesn't even believe in Satan. He apparently doesn't believe in anything except himself, which is a character trait of the one he says he doesn't believe in. At the worship event the night before they planned to perform their "black mass" in the Capitol, he was recording himself interacting with people, being all friendly and even declared that he had "inspired this unity." Just like the devil, I thought, to take credit for what God did.
This morning I was struck by the many ways that he is imitating Satan, even though he doesn't believe he is real. My understanding of his message to the world is, Satan and God are all a figment of our imagination, it's all us, there is no heaven and no hell, and we refuse to be subject to your God. All this is terribly typical of Satan.
In Genesis Chapter 3, Satan asks Adam and Eve, "Has God indeed said 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" questioning whether God said what God said. Creating doubt in the authority of God's word is Satan's number one priority, and his followers or his children typically do the same. So it is not even necessary to believe in Satan to be his follower and do his bidding.
Paul writes in 2 Timothy 2:22-26, "Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife. And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will."
By going around saying, "Hail, Satan!" and desecrating the Communion wafer and trying to dedicate the Capitol to Satan and trying to command God to be silent, he is perfectly following the example of Satan who would not obey God and gathered one third of the angels with him when he fell.
Jesus said, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven" (Luke 10:18). Revelation 12:4 refers to his "drawing a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth," in reference to the fallen angels that followed him in his rebellion. So, rebellion is Satan's primary motivation for everything he does, and his followers and his children do likewise. (Genesis 3:5)
He told Adam and Eve that if they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they would "be like God, knowing good and evil" (Genesis 3:5). Satan wants to be like God, and he wants to be worshipped as God. Isaiah describes Satan's fall in chapter 14, verses 12-15.
"How you have fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!
For you have said in your heart:
I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above
the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount
of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the the north;
I will ascend above the heights
of the the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.'"
So we can easily see Satan (1) prioritizing the delegitimization of God's word; (2) rebellion against God's authority; and (3) wanting to be like God and wanting to be worshipped as God, and all his followers and all his his children do the same thing.
They want to be seen, and heard and adored, and they really have nothing in particular to be recognized for or admired for, except in the eyes of the world, definitely not in the eyes of God. And, as we know, Satan is the "god of this age" (2 Corinthians 4:4).
"But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus' sake" (2 Corinthians 4:4-5).
Anyway, the gentleman said he was going to go into the Capitol even after the governor told him he would not be permitted to perform his "black mass" inside the Capitol (although she had given him permission previously, and remitting the permission after receiving much pressure from churches). His aim was clearly to offend the Catholics and the Christians. After losing the permission to perform inside the Capitol, he said he was going to anyway, and that they would have to arrest him, and arrest him they did.
It is sad for people to follow the devil so closely and think they will escape God's wrath. God will not be mocked. So all we can do is keep lifting up the name of Jesus and pray that God may grant them repentance, because if they don't they are on a very slippery slope, sliding into hell, and that is just the truth. And it is my purpose in life to glorify God and to speak the truth in love, and that is about all I have for tonight. And I do pray that God will find a way to break this person's heart the way only He knows how, and bring him to repentance and faith and save his soul, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
