Let's Make America Strong Again

Some studies report that only 11% of Americans read the Bible every day. I find that an astonishing statistic. However, it should not be too surprising when we see the condition of our society today. Barna, The American Bible Society and others do research on such things, and you can discover a lot about today's spiritual climate by reading their reports. We surely need some way to move away from the chaos and destruction around us in the world today. It seems that reading the Bible every day would be a good place to start reviving oneself and would be a healthy practice for all Americans. In the time when our country was founded, they didn't have social media, 24-hour news and round the clock entertainment of every variety, and I am sure people were more mentally balanced and wiser than today's population, not to mention more at peace and emotionally grounded. Surely, in the 18th and 19th centuries, marriages and families were more stable and connected and provided more of a foundation on which to build healthy lives than is the case in today's "roaring 2020s." And these were years when America was building and becoming strong and prosperous. I would like to see this beginning to happen again, wouldn't you? I am not planning to write five-minute daily devotionals every day. I think we need more than five-minute daily devotionals to rebuild our American spirit. A lot of people object to spiritual things and especially biblical references, but that is what I will be sharing. If you read Bible passages, I have no doubt you will have one of two reactions. Either you will grow stronger spiritually or you will not. Your choice. Read the passage and let God speak to you. Psalm 119: 1-8 Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord. 2 Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart. 3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. 4 Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently. 5 O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! 6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. 7 I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. 8 I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly.
