Valentine's Day Eve Checking In
It's Valentine's Day Eve, and I have had a very interesting week. Sunday morning, on the way to church, I totaled my car. My dear little 2007 black Versa hatchback smashed to smithereens. Had it since 2011, the same year my dad died. Can hardly believe it's been 15 years.
I found out today that since no miles per hour or how many miles over the speed limit were listed on the speeding ticket (because no one clocked it or saw it), I may be able to get the speeding ticket amended from "speeding" to a "moving violation," in which case they won't report it to my insurance, but there is still the matter of the guardrail, which I will now have to report to my insurance, so I might as well pay for the speeding ticket now and wait and see about the other.
I told the officer I was speeding. Everyone says I shouldn't have told him, but I'm not good at lying. I must have been speeding. But then again, maybe I wasn't. A friend reported lots of dirt thrown up on the street. Another suggested a thrown rod. Another suggested a blowout. Who actually knows?
I will have to call my insurance company now about the guardrail damage and will probably have a much more expensive claim now. Guess that call will have to wait until Tuesday morning, if my insurance company takes off Presidents' Day. Something else I will have to deal with. I will be going back to work myself Tuesday.
This is all just one of those things that I will have to let God work out. I can't force anything, can't make anything happen. The accident happened however it happened. It hadn't occurred to me that I might have to pay for the guardrail damage, and the court has not yet received the police report, so that will tell us the what's what about the guardrail.
So, now, I suppose, I'll have to add that to the insurance claim. Oh, well, that's life, isn't it? I just saw where the cost averages around $2,000 to $6,000, but can cost a lot more, up to $20,000+. I can't take any more of this right now.
So, Sunday I wrecked the car, Monday, went to work and got in touch with my insurance company. Tuesday took off work and found a car. Wednesday went to work, Thursday and Friday off. Enjoyed getting to sleep in. Today I stepped on my glasses, fortunately, got them adjusted at the optical shop down the way. Another fun thing.
Went to the library, which I routinely do on Friday afternoon on my way home from work, just to look at the little bookstore they have. It's so much fun. They have a rack of dollar books, as if I need more books, and tomorrow, the 14th is when they have their 15th day of the month half-price sale on everything. Well, not everything. Books, don't think that applies to the gifts, etc.
That's all I really have for today. Oh, I did buy a fried chicken thigh from Church's Fried Chicken. I was kind of disappointed. I had seen their sign: $13.99 for 10 legs and 10 thighs. I don't know what I was thinking, but I had pictured in my mind, not crispy fried chicken at all, but kind of baked or braised or something, I don't know why, my mind playing tricks on me probably, but I ordered and ate one thigh. Not that great. I did not love it, and probably won't be going back.
I don't feel like rhyming even though we have, "I had seen their sign, $13.99 for 10 legs and 10 thighs." No, not in the mood, not really in the mood. Happy Valentine's Day, all. For myself and many in a similar marital state, this will mean candy discounts on Sunday, if you can get to the stores early enough. Night-night.
