Crayola Copyrights Original Scent

In July 2024, the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) granted Crayola a trademark for its distinct crayon scent after a six-year, two-attempt process. The scent, described as "slightly earthy soap with pungent, leather-like clay undertones," is officially protected, with potential future plans for in-store scent marketing. This is according to the AI Overview. I am still searching for the original source. I notice things like this, and, because I work in an elementary school, I have some occasion to be around crayons. Not usually, mind you. They have been somewhat upstaged by markers, but one room I work in has a humongous box of them and I have a few fourth- grade experts on Crayola colors, specifically, about one that is now an "antique," according to one boy. The most recent discontinued color is Dandelion, which was abandoned in 2017. How do I know this? I just looked up the year, but how I learned about the Dandelion color being discontinued happened a couple of days ago. I was working with my fourth-grade tutor group of three girls and one boy, and the activity called for crayons. In this particular classroom lives the abovementioned box of crayons. In said box of crayons co-exist many brands of crayons, not all Crayola, but I have always been very biased toward Crayola crayons (they are preferred by teachers, it says so right on the box). A couple of the girls were digging through the box very intently after they had completed the coloring portion of our activity, I asked her what she was looking for, and she told me. She showed me a whole and a piece of a Dandelion Crayola crayon, and informed me that it was discontinued, and she was looking for as many as she could find. The boy in the group informed her that when she was grown up it would probably be worth a lot of monery. There are some other colors that have been discontinued in Crayola's history, but what has always interested me about Crayola crayons is the fact that their smell used to be so wonderful and the smell seemed to have been banished as well as some colors, so I have decided to find out what is going on about the original scent of Crayola crayons. So, now you can go and check this out. I know I will. I should be able to buy a box of Crayola crayons now that smell the way they're supposed to. I know most of you probably could not care less about this, but for those of you who do, I hope you find, as I do, they have restored Crayola crayons to their original, nostalgic and wonderful glory. And Happy coloring!
