The Last Nice Day Before the Dreaded Ice Storm
It really seems like the world is wanting everybody to be afraid of this three-day ice storm that they're talking about. And I really don't want to let them do this.
I never did find the "weatherseal tape" that I bought and misplaced who knows where in my apartment, so I went to the hardware store and bought another one. Thank God. I thought sure they'd be out because the one I bought before was the last one. Today the weather was nice but it won't be nice for long, at least until this three-day ice storm has passed through.
I looked for a travel mug there but they started at like $30. I don't think so. There was no easy way to get to the thrift store because the main thoroughfare out there is still torn up. Who knows how many months before they open it again. I'm talking about Fairlawn, Topeka friends.
Siri got me lost and it was getting dark so I went to Ollie's (that used to be Big Lots, which I miss), to look for a travel mug. What I did end up buying was a dish drainer rack and tray. I had a decent dish drainer but no tray so I was using styrofoam trays and been meaning to move up a bit from that but the day Ollie's opened, they were charging $15 for a set, and I thought that was too much. Today it was about $11. It's kind of an improvement, but now I have two dish drainers and one tray.
I needed to go for a bike ride but decided to stop at my apartment for some reason, I don't remember why, to leave my shopping bags, maybe, but when I got there, I didn't have the keys to my apartment. I knew they were where they were supposed to be when I was walking into Ollie's, because I felt for them in their little place in my purse, and there they were but, mysteriously, they were gone, so I panicked and called the landlord.
I asked the landlord if they weren't at Ollie's, would he let me into my apartment. He is very nice, and he said yes, which was a great relief. I told him I was pretty sure they had to be there and I was on the way over there to find out and I would let him know if they were there. And they were. Thank God. I called him from Ollie's parking lot.
After work I had cooked a vegetable medley (broccoli, cauliflower and carrots), steamed in the microwave, which went very well with a nice baked chicken thigh from Dillon's, but when I came home, the apartment smelled like broccoli. I hate when my apartment smells like broccoli, don't you?
So, I lit the tea light under my little wax warmer with Yankee Candle balsam and cedar candlewax in it, harvested from a candle I burned over Christmas. Then I had a little accident with that which I spent quite a bit of time cleaning up, which is why I'm starting this so late on a school night.
And, yes, there will most likely not be a school closing in the morning. I am going to read Psalms 90 and 91 to quench the remaining anxiety about the storm.
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust" (Psalm 91:1-2)
My recommendation for anyone anxious about this storm to go and read the rest of that psalm. It is so wonderful. Don’t worry too much about the storm and have a great three days. Peace, joy and love from the Lord Jesus and goodnight.
