Buried in Junkmail

I am buried in junk mail. Buried in fundraising mail. I don't really know how they all find me. I know some people just throw everything in the trash. I'm moving in that direction. Meanwhile it piles up. It piles up in a box by my laptop. It piles up on the table beside my laptop. It piles up on the kitchen counter. It piles up everywhere. They send me nickels mostly, but sometimes they send me checks. Can you believe it? Like I'm going to actually go to the bank and cash a check for $2.50 or whatever it is. No, I'm not. It's going in the wastebasket, headed for the dumpster. They send me shopping bags. I had a bunch of them ready to go to the thrift store, then I found I could use them for my DIY insulation around my front door. So out they came. Thanks, guys. I get to the point of saying, "Okay, this is all going away," and then I feel guilty. I don't know why. I know that if I throw them all away, I will get another one in a week or two. I know what they want. They all want me to give them my bank information so they can take it out every month. Then they will quit sending me mail every week or so. It's kind of like email. Same thing. They want money. Bombarded with stuff to delete. Every day. A good chunk of my time goes into deleting emails. Here's a good one for you. Enterprise Rent-a-Car wouldn't let me use my bank account to pay them. I had to have an account at a credit union in town. I think I had $80 in it. I only got the account so I could rent a car. I haven't used it for anything else. But since my local bank is closed except for the drive through because of robberies, I guess I shall have to go over there and do some business with them because if I don't, they will take $10 out because my account is "dormant." Yes, you read that right. It says on the statement that the "beginning balance" was $70, but beginning when? Last month, maybe, the "ending" (current) balance is $60. I don't even remember how long ago I opened up those accounts. The savings account they haven't bothered. It was minimal, is still minimal. No interest paid. None. But as far as I know I can at least go inside in person. They have offices literally all over town. Neilsen sent me a dollar. They want to offer me I don't know how much to participate in one of their surveys. The thing is I don't watch enough television for this to be worthwhile for me or them. I can't actually find the form to fill out. I will put the dollar in my billfold though. Don't get me wrong. Some of it I respond to. I donate to some things, just not to everyone who sends me this stuff. I hope I haven't depressed you.
