Let's Pray for Andrew Wolfe

We hear about so many horrible things happening in the news every day, I don't know how we can keep it all straight in our brain or how we can handle it in our heart. About this shooting that happened yesterday, that happened in our nation's Capitol, of two National Guardsmen on a mission to keep law and order, gunned down in cold blood, the news has had conflicting reports, on this Thanksgiving Day. I thought they were both still alive until this afternoon, when I heard they had both died yesterday. Then I heard that that the 20 year-old female member had succumbed to her injuries, but that the male member was still fighting for his life, his father asking for prayer for his son. The fact that this happened at all is horribly shocking, and every time things like this happen all I can think about is were they prepared for eternity? I can't help thinking that because I believe what Jesus taught about eternity. It is recorded in the New Testament many times, but in John 5:24, it is recorded that he said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment." The man's name is Andrew Wolfe, and I have been praying for him, and the sadness of the whole event lay heavy on my heart but I released it to God. I just know that we have strayed very far away from God in this country. The things that have been happening, especially since 2020, are just actually too unbelievable to be true, and yet they are true, and we need God very much. Today was Thanksgiving Day. What a terrible Thanksgiving Day it must be for the family of 20 year-old Sarah Beckstrom to have had to experience the loss of their young family member on this day of all days, by her side as she lay in the hospital with gunshot wounds to her head and chest. It's just unfathomable to me. And I refuse to let my heart be hardened and indifferent to the suffering that is happening all around us every day. So, this family needs prayer. We may not know these people personally but we know that they are hurting. We can pray for Andrew Wolfe, and we can pray for his family. This is a privilege that we have as believers. If we have believed in Jesus and been born of the Spirit we are alive forever and we can "come boldly into the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16). Andrew's dad has asked us to pray for his son. There is still hope for him. I pray most of all for anyone in such as state that they may be ready to meet God because salvation is a gift that can't be earned. It is free, but it requires repentance. I believe that God knows who is ready and who is not, and that some people are ready and some people are not. I don't know who is and who isn't unless I know them personally, but I know God knows. So, I pray for Andrew to be saved if he has not been yet. I don't know how that works if someone is sedated, but I believe God can meet with anyone any time, and the Bible does teach that, "...it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27) so, there is no use praying for someone's soul after their passing from this world. We are already under judgment, as Jesus describes in John 3, and are only saved through repentance "by grace through faith" (Ephesians 2:8,9). And I pray that the Lord will heal his injuries. They say something about his brain needing room... "Twenty-four year-old Andrew Wolfe is recovering from surgery. His brain is being allowed space to swell and this first 24 to 48 hours are crucial for his recovery," the reports are saying. So, let's just pray for his recovery. Let's just all agree together that this young man may survive and thrive and may God's miracle working power be effective and God be glorified in Jesus' name. Amen.
