Cant Beat the Beatles
My brother texted me a video of the Beatles from 1964. That's when I saw them live in Kansas City. This video is not from Kansas City, it's from Washington. They are so fun to watch and listen to. I remember when they first landed from that other universe from whence they originated. A different level of cool, and the music from back then still has the same appeal.
I am not a music critic by any stretch of the imagination, I am only speaking from personal experience, so I will not even try to critique their music or describe its origins or any of that; it's been done by plenty of professionals. All I know is Beatlemania was (and is) a real thing. It's just happy music, something fairly rare in the music scene today, and unique. No one else before or since really had what they had.
I did like Gerry and the Pacemakers, but the Beatles just had that certain something, inimitable, and just plain lovely. I know some people think if you're a Christian you probably shouldn't get carried away with music that is not praise and worship, or "contemporary Christian music." Well, here's what comes to my mind as I sit here describing the music of the Beatles.
In the world of Christian music, I would compare the music of the band Love Song to the music of the Beatles, in the sense of the purity, beauty, originality and inimitability of their music. I am, quite honestly, not a fan of "contemporary Christian music." I don't think much of it and hardly ever even care for it at all. But you are free to like whatever you want.
One thing, as a musician, that I learned about all music, Christian or secular, there is just so much variety in music, and people have different taste. That's all there is to it. There are many variables (if you want to call it that) or measures to use to talk about it, different genres, etc., but I don't want to go in that direction.
For me, right now, also, the music of the Beatles is something I can share with my brother who lives far away, so it makes me feel connected to him to listen to a video he sent me. So, besides the music itself, it is very personal to me in this way.
It's kind of a language, music, so I guess you could say there is music in different languages, be it Blues or Pop or Classical or Country, and there are different kinds of each of those as well, But that is not what I want to write about.
I want to write about just enjoying life, in general, and I think the Beatles gave some of that to the generation they came from, and, really, to the present generation as well, and for future generations as well. It's undeniable. I am enjoying listening to a live Beatles concert from 1964 right now, not because it "brings back memories" or anything like that, because, in my humble opinion, groups with the level of talent the Beatles had just doesn't come around every day, and I personally think their music is the kind that will always find an audience.
I am going to conclude this because I have to start going to bed earlier, now that school's actually starting. Kids start on Wednesday, but the early mornings are already here. No more staying up till 2, no, no, no. I'm going to enjoy a couple more minutes of "Long Tall Sally" while I get ready to call it a night. Hope you are enjoying life tonight. Signing off, with love, Carolyn
