Derby Winners, Omelet Recipe, Losing People, Trouble from the Wicked
Well, it was quite a Kentucky Derby today. They were going to race 21 horses in that mud. Two horses were scratched for veterinary reasons, issues with their feet, I believe. One of them, Rodriquez, was Bob Baffert-trained and the other one, Grande, was trained by Todd Pletcher. The one favored to win, Journalism, placed second, and the winner was Sovereignty. Third was Baeza and fourth was Final Gambit, one of the greys. The other grey, the one I kind of wanted to win, Sandman, placed seventh. They were all absolutely stunning.
The track was totally muddy, and I am so glad nobody got hurt, although I read one horse had broken front legs training, and, of course, you know what that means. I don't like to hear about that. I still think 19 horses running in mud was too many, but what do I know?
I stayed up too late last night, but when I got up at 8 I couldn't go back to sleep, so now I'm yawning. I made a great breakfast this morning. I made it up. It was like a single serve breakfast casserole omelet. Here's how you make it:
Heat 1 Tablespoon of oil in a skillet (I used olive oil). Brown 2/3 cup of potatoes O'Brien in the oil.
Separately scramble one egg, add 1 Tablespoon of milk, 1 chopped slice of red onion and 1/4 cup of Mexican style shredded cheese.
Pour that mixture over the potatoes, cook, turning once. It was delicious.
Then later on I ate an entire bag of microwave popcorn and a hot fudge sundae. I'm not hungry now. Of course I had my tea with milk and sugar first thing, and later, one cup of French vanilla coffee with some turmeric, some cinnamon, some ground pepper and my French vanilla creamer in it. Those seasonings are supposed to be good for you. Well, the creamer, probably not so much.
I miss my family. I miss having a normal relationship with both my brothers, I miss my late sister, and I miss my mom and dad. I remember when my dad was in the nursing home with Alzheimer's and he was getting close to dying, he said he was "going to see his dad." I can relate that now.
People leave us all through life. I looked at an old directory of the women at the church I used to go to. Several of the people in there have died, and many of them stayed at the old church when the split happened. That's what happens, isn't it?
You go through life losing everybody. Some you get close to and some you don't, whether it's people you work with or people in your family or people you meet in church if you end up going to church. And, ultimately you are alone, either by yourself or by yourself with God.
Everybody wants to be close to somebody. Some people have people built into their life, others don't. I trust that everything that happens to a Christian is intended to make them more like Jesus.
Today was Proverbs 3 day, being May 3rd. I had an issue with a certain social media platform today. Not unusual. I found a verse in Proverbs 3 that spoke to it. It was this:
"Do not be afraid of sudden terror,
Nor of trouble from the wicked
when it comes;
For the Lord will be your confidence,
And will keep your foot from being caught" (Proverbs 3:25-26).
Notice it says "when it comes," not "if it comes."
Yeah. Heading for the bed. Goodnight. Happy Sunday!
