'Because He Delighted in Me'

David spoke to the LORD some amazing things in a song in 2 Samuel 22, "on the day when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul" (2 Samuel 22:1). The words seem to speak of the Lord in third person, but verse 1 says that he "spoke to the LORD the words of this song." It's all worship to the Lord when he says, "The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horm of my salvation, My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies" (verses 2-4). This whole chapter is like this, and I recommend that you read it all, but I just want to share a little bit more: "When the waves of death surrounded me, The floods of ungodliness made me afraid. The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried out to my God; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry entered his ears" (verses 5-7). There is so much more in this chapter, talking about who God is and what he has done, and how he rescued David from his enemies, those who hated him; they were too strong for him, they confronted him in the day of his calamity, but the Lord was his support, and... "He delivered me because He delighted in me" (verses 17-20). There is so much more in here, and this is the night I "go to meetin'" so I have to cut it short. But that word is so powerful. Again, because of the relationship David had with God and knowing that God "delighted" in him, and David trusted in him, God delivered him. I hope we can all get inspired by that.
