Get Some Sleep
Since lack of sleep is cited as the number one cause of a number of physical, mental and emotional maladies, I plan on writing no more than 250 words tonight. Everything from cognitive and brain function issues to weakened immunity are named as how lack of sleep can affect our bodies and our mind.
I am not surprised to read that lack of sleep is also a major cause of behavior issues and poor school performance in children. I see that a lot working in an elementary school.
"I'm tired," they tell me.
"Did you stay up too late last night?" I ask.
"Yes."
"What were you doing?" Used to be watching TV, now it's video games, more often than not.
"How late did you stay up last night?"
"One o'clock."
"No wonder you're tired."
Well, I can relate, because I get tired too, and getting tired at work is not good.
Seven or eight hours a night is what they recommend for adults, 9-12 hours for school-age kids. So there you go. I am pretty sure I did not stay up late on school nights. I don't remember there being any fights about it. I think I probably went to bed around 9:00 on school nights. It probably wouldn't hurt to try to do that as an adult. I do not enjoy waking up to an alarm clock.
I have been known to be falling asleep at a stop light, suddenly waking up when people started to move after the light changed. That's not good. So, I'm signing off, had a busy day, need to get some rest. Hope you will do the same. Goodnight.
