If the Bible is Not True, What Is?

If the Bible is not true, what is? If Christ is not who he said he was then what is true? One time someone came up to me and said, "Jesus loves you." I said, "I'm glad somebody does." I went to a church that night and heard the gospel and understood it for the first time. It was a gift from God. Nobody twisted my arm. Nobody tried to convince me. But God revealed himself.

A lot of people had told me about Jesus. So many times. My cousin, a boyfriend's aunt. A friend's mother. Even my little Baptist friends when I was a kid. But I was an Episcopalian. We were the smart ones. We would go by the Glad Tidings Assembly of God church and my mom would say, "There's the church where they swing from the chandeliers." And we would all laugh.

I can't convince anybody. But it makes me sick, literally sick when I read the things people who should know better are saying against what this one writer calls "heaven-and-hell Christianity." The book is called Speaking Christian (2011). He's an Episcopal priest and he just attacks every truth that is found in Jesus Christ and the Bible.

To get rid of that sick feeling in my stomach I literally had to open my Bible and read what is true. How do I know it's true? Because it resonates in my spirit. It gives life and health and peace and joy and I know God has caused the Bible to be written and has preserved it through the ages. Because it is God's word, his love letter to us.

I thank God for every Gideon's Bible I found in every hotel I ever stayed at before I knew God. I thank God for every "Jesus Freak" that ever spoke to me. I thank God for every believer God has blessed me to know for the past 36 years because they have (you have) caused me to know again and again how true and faithful God is and the miracles he works in his people.

Today I noticed how the birds that come to my feeder are afraid of me. If I move quickly or if I go outside, they quickly fly away. It occurred to me that if I were a bird they wouldn't be afraid of me anymore. And isn't that what God did? Became a man so we would not have to fly away from him anymore.

Christians, we better be knowing our Bibles in these days. There are people who need to hear about Jesus. The truth about Jesus. And as for the false teachers...

Jesus said, "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' (Matthew 7:22-23)

"Let God be true and every man a liar." (Romans 3:4)
