Sorting Socks

I inherited a thing about socks from my dad. I don't know what else to call it. I can't call it an addiction or an obsession. He just liked socks. Plus, he was an absolute fashion genius. He always looked fantastic. One time we were out shopping at a department store with his wife. When we got separated, I asked her where he went, and she told me to go to wherever the socks are, and, of course, there he was. It was so cute. When he died, I got a whole bunch of them. The black ones I gave to my brother, because he told me that was his preference. I kept the white ones and the neutral colors: tan, beige, navy, etc. And I like socks myself, so, as a result of my interest in socks I have an overly stuffed sock drawer. Before attacking my sock drawer after years of procrastination, I did not go online to look up all the different ways they suggest you organize a sock drawer, but after I got done, I looked it up, and, let me tell you, it was overwhelming. I have a theory about this. This might help someone. I believe that sorting them by color might be one way to lose track of the pairs and end up with socks with no mate, because you could easily grab three when you only see two, and that way lose track of the pairs. I don't lose a whole lot of socks, as in the dryer, for example, fortunately, but I do end up with one or two singles, now and then. am not the best at throwing things away. I tend to want to mend them or just leave them in the drawer until a day comes when I might be in the mood to darn them. Darning them was a little binge I went on once, but I'm not presently inclined to darn. I'm not presently inclined to throw them away either, especially if they are nice socks--soft socks, for example. So, I have a dilemma here. I have a drawer with a divider in the middle, so I put the ankle socks and the thin, dressy socks on the left side and the heavier, full-length socks on the right side. No separating them by season, per se, just warm and hot weather versus cool and cold weather. Simple. I did it, anyway, and it was just one of those things that needed to be done. My sock drawer is still too full to add any new ones to it. That's the only problem. I guess maybe I kind of have a thing about socks too.
