Should Defacing the American Flag Be Illegal?

What do you think about this? It was illegal to deface an American flag from 1969 until 1989 (I don't remember when it wasn't illegal to deface an American flag). Then... "The Supreme Court Ruling (1989): In the landmark case Texas v. Johnson, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that burning or defacing the American flag as a form of political protest is protected as symbolic free speech under the First Amendment." I believe this decision is partially to blame for all the chaos we're seeing today. What do you say we get it back like before? "Symbolic free speech?" or destroying property? At least. What if we went back to honoring Old Glory once again?
