Having Trouble Forgiving Someone?
Forgiveness withheld and irreconciliation lead to terrible outcomes in our physical, emotional and spiritual health, not to mention our eternal destiny. That is why Jesus Christ went to the cross to die for the sins of everyone, then arose from the dead and sent the Holy Spirit to live inside us to overcome sin in our hearts and help us live a life that honors God. So we can be reconciled to God and then to one another.
No one was more mistreated than Jesus Christ on the cross. Still He said, "Father, forgive them for they don't know what they are doing." However, we can only forgive like He did if we have first accepted His forgiveness for our own sins, because without his Holy Spirit we do not have the power to forgive. If you still have not accepted Christ's forgiveness and received his gift of salvation, you are ourside the will of God. Yet He is still extending His mercy toward you.
Relationships are everything, first with God through faith in Jesus Christ and then with everybody else. When we accept His offer of forgiveness in a personal way, the Holy Spirit gives us strength to forgive and knowing Him brings inner healing and power to overcome life's hurts and offenses. There will always be offenses, Jesus said. Always opportunities to be offended and hurt. That is the nature of sin in the human race. In all of us. We have to defeat it but we can only do so with the power of God living on the inside through faith in Jesus Christ.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The words of Jesus, John 3:16
