Goodbye, Student Loan!
I always said I was going to throw a big party when I got my student loan paid off. Well, that never happened. And short of a miracle, it was never going to be paid off.
I tried. I paid off $10,000 of it in 20 years. Anyway, I won't bore you with the details but I think I'm ready to start planning that party now.
It's been three months now since I applied to have my student loan forgiven because I work in a school. As of now, it has been consolidated with a company that will deal with the US Dept. of Education for me for the next 10 years for $39 a month. I think I can live with that. There was also an initial fee but nominal when compared to what I owed.
I am almost speechless with wonder and joy that this has become possible. And what a blessing to not receive any more bills from the company that was handling my loan.
Until now my student loan has been like a giant black cloud with horns and fangs and fire coming out of its mouth since 1996. Well, not quite. Since 2005 when I became no longer employed by a university.
So now all I have to do is deal with this agency who deals with the government and I can go on with my life. Can you imagine a great sigh of relief? Can you relate to the ecstasy? I'm serious, friends, this is an extreme sense of renewed vigor and will to live and hope for the future. I am so blessed and thankful and I mean it about the party.
