Charred Car Update

It's been awhile since I reported, and last time I posted, I had been looking at that hideous monstrosity known as a "torched" car on the street in front of my apartment. I had wanted to let you know the torched car finally left.  Torched car, not charred car. Learn something new every day. I learned that from a cop. Evidently this happens frequently. Details are irrelevant, I suppose, but there it sat for over a week, amid misinformation from every quarter.

For one thing, someone had told the owner that the car was "legally parked," and, therefore, she could leave it there as long as she wanted. A street called Twilight Court is private property. That's next door in front of another apartment complex. My street is called Twilight Drive, not Twilight Court. So, that was the first bit of misinformation.

The other bit of misinformation was that it was supposedly impossible for the owner to move the car until the insurance adjusters had come. The truth is all the owner had to do was notify the insurance adjusters and they could go to wherever the car was towed to. But it seems like we often find out many things by experience, rarely before the experience when we perceive that we need them. And maybe we do. Sometimes maybe we don't know what we need. Hint: I probably needed patience. None of you need any of that, right?

Actually, any reasonably intelligent person may have been able to figure out that the car was parked illegally on a city street, was an eyesore and should have been moved immediately, but we must never assume anything, as the saying goes.

In any case, I'm just glad it's gone. The little squares of shattered windshield stayed lying around all over the street for quite awhile, though, unfortunately. Seems the tower forgot to bring his broom. The cop too. They even had a conversation about it. Amazing what one will learn from a charred car in front of your apartment.

An appropriate verse of Scripture eludes me at the moment. Maybe, "In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." (I Thessalonians 5:18) Be thankful in it, not for it. Do we make that distinction? Or do we just do it?

I must confess I was not very thankful about that charred car. In fact, I was more scared than thankful. I was thinking, as I often do, "God, get me out of here." Not very thankful.  So the moral of this story? One I often need to be reminded of. Being thankful to God because He really is God and I'm not. If things "happen for a reason," then I should be getting in the habit of turning to Him in everything instead of just griping. Isn't that something we hear quite a lot about concerning the children of Israel on their way to the promised land? Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I'm still glad it's gone. And I'm very thankful that it's gone. So, that's all for today.
