Blue Monday, Not Music Monday
Well, Monday used to be Music Monday. For many years I played music with a friend or some friends or a friend in his basement. At first it was a band, and then I left the band, and then he left the band, then he and I worked on originals, and then we practiced with another guy and performed once a month. And then it stopped, I never fully understood why. ("I don't like it, but I guess things happen that way"). That's the hook line of a song ("Guess Things Happen That Way") sung by Johnny Cash, written by Jack Clement. Great line, just popped into my head.
So, after all those years of band practice ended, I decided I would still let it be Music Monday, I would just practice or learn some new songs or maybe even do some composing. But then, what ended up happening instead is that I usually don't get anything done until the weekend before I play and sing at the retirement center once a month. My excuse now is that it's just too hot. In the winter, my excuse is it's too cold.
I refuse to keep my apartment cold in this heat because it's too expensive, so I use fans and try to move real slow. I only use the air conditioning when it's above 79 inside. Might not sound too cool, but you'd be surprised how cool it feels when you come in from 95 outside. I'll try to have Music Monday tomorrow, if possible.
I hear it's going to cool off a little on Wednesday, and Thursday my brother-in-law and his new wife are planning to come in from Florida and we'll have lunch at one of our fantastic coffee shops we have here. My brother-in-law used to play in a band in Kansas City and now every year in June they have a reunion, and my brother-in-law and his new wife have been meeting me for lunch while they're here for that reunion. That's something to look forward to.
Life is filled with wondrous things, but it's also full of horrible things. And there are things we go through in life that are wonderful but we have to let them go. I told you I was watching less TV. I'm still on my phone too much though. Still, it's better than being on the phone all day and watching too much TV. I still have trouble reading like I want to, because of my attention span.
So yes, today we had two horrendous shootings, one in Nevada and one in New York. A well-documented trend is that there are more crimes in the summer than at any other time, and the real heat of summer has really hit hard this year. I don't want to speculate as to why there are more murders in the summertime. I just always figured it was because people were more upset when it was hot. I am more upset when it's hot. How about you?
In Kansas it is usually pretty temperate all year around, but then there is the dead of winter and I guess you can call this the height of summer or the peak of summer. It's simply way too hot. I don't want to go anywhere when it's hot like this, but research is telling me one of the reasons there are more crimes in the summer is simply because more people are out doing things, but I don't think that is necessarily true during a heat advisory. People are inside with their air conditioners on, I think.
I did say I don't like to go anywhere when it's hot, and I don't, but you can also get "cabin fever" when you stay inside all day, even when it's hot, so I decided I needed to move my body, so I went to the gym for a bike ride, and then decided to go get some supplies to make a spinach shake and a salad, for which I had to go shopping.
When I was checking out at the grocery store the guy behind me in line had a real sour expression on his face. I was having a little fun banter with the checker and the guy behind me was giving me a dirty look, which fit right in with my theory of why we have more murder in the summer.
I get angry when a stupid ad comes on that you can't X out of. I guess I'm going to have to install an ad blocker. They must not have done that when they moved the stuff on my old laptop to my new one. Well, I mean, not as angry as that guy behind me looked at the grocery store.
I suppose I can imagine there being more road rage in the summer, because I still think it's mostly a matter of heat being somehow associated with being "hot under the collar," or upset about something or having an angry spirit.
And when you think about it, you know anyone who goes and shoots up a bunch of people has got to be an angry person. Anger is probably the worst problem of the human race, don't you think? I do.
So, I think I'm going to quit before I get impatient with this app acting wonky, and besides the midnight hour is rapidly upon us. Therefore, I will be signing off. Goodnight.
