What is Love?

What is love? Love is God sending his Son to die for our sins and then after he suffered the worst pain imaginable, saying from the cross, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Luke 23:34). I am beginning to understand that people who are doing bad things to other people do not know what they're doing. I have had people argue with me about this. They have said, "Oh, yes, they do, they know exactly what they're doing." Well, perhaps some do, I'm sure some do, but if Jesus Christ said they don't, in my view, you can take it to the bank. I have had some recent spiritual awakenings concerning this, and it makes it a whole lot easier to deal with offenses, when it really hits home to you that they don't know what they're doing. It could be a scary thought, because, in essence, practically everybody in the world probably falls in that category at one time or the other, or, in fact, more likely, most of the time, and that includes you, and that includes me. We don't know what we're doing. We don't even realize how much we sin. If we have yet to repent of our sin and receive the forgiveness of God, we for sure don't know what we're doing. I know I didn't. I do a little more now, and I'm growing in that, but still, it's a rough road. This is going to be short tonight, because I have been staying up too late, I have to sing tomorrow night, I have not been in the mood to practice all evening, I am always stressed the day before and the day of the evening that I sing, so I am just going to leave you with my prayer that you will realize that the people who have hurt you probably don't know what they're doing. I have come to that conclusion in several instances and it has brought me such freedom to remind myself to forgive them because they don't know what they're doing. They don't. Realize this, and forgive them completely from your heart, in Jesus' name, Amen.
