The Love of His People: Looking For the Perfect Church?
I'm afraid some people who have left a church because it did not measure up somehow have missed out on what God wants to do. Everyone should be involved in a local fellowship even if it is not "perfect." One preacher put it like this. "If you find the perfect church, don't join it because as soon as you do, it won't be perfect anymore." Not saying any of you are doing that, just think it's an apt saying. I also had a friend once who said, "I don't have a problem with God, just with God's people." Well, that is a problem. We are his body and he puts us where he wants us in fellowships with people who are different from us (that's what I'm finding out). It's an exciting time. I know personally God has had to work some things out of me where I tended to frame everything negatively and it just made me miserable. I think God wants us to get back to basics, that is Jesus first, the word first, our relationship with Him first and learning to love one another. That's how we can "turn the world upside down," not by finding fault. I know because I have done it plenty. But He is changing me. And I am happier now. And joy is what people need to see from us, joy and love. That is what finally drew me to the Lord was the love of His people.
