What Happened to October?
I don't know what happened to the month of October. It flew by so fast. I actually forgot my monthly singing engagement this evening. I was thinking I had another week and as I'm trying to write something earlier, I get a call from the place and I'm completely shocked. I have never done that. But I said I'd be there in five minutes, which I was, almost. And my dear ladies waited patiently and graciously enjoyed my unrehearsed program I was thinking I had another week to prepare for... And next time I sing there it will be just ten days until Thanksgiving!
I was so looking forward to the cool weather too and it finally arrived, as usual, in the month of October. In fact, today, I was cold on the playground. It's time to start bundling up. It was extremely windy today and still only in the 60s outside when I went out. I was thinking about what that will feel like in a few weeks.
This is the first year in 11 years that I have had playground duty, which is 40 minutes outside every day unless it's raining or below 20 degrees, I think it is. I like being outside with the kids when it's not too hot or too cold, which it usually isn't but I know it's going to get pretty brisk pretty soon.
The trees are starting to change a little bit, but nothing too spectacular yet. Sometimes we do have some pretty spectacular colors in the fall, some years more than others. I have read something about how it needs to be pretty cool for the pretty colors to come, and often it stays so hot for so long out here on the prairie that we have missed some of the colors I remember from years ago. I just read that the prettiest fall colors need a few weeks of 32 to 45 degree nights and sunny days, so I will be watching for that.
And in a couple of weeks or so the dark time of the year will be upon us. I hope to be mentally prepared for that. Maybe writing will help. I stopped taking my Christmas tree down years ago, pretty soon I will be turning the lights on, lighting the Balsam and Fir candles, and before you know it there will be snow on the ground. Looking forward to it all. Loving the fall. Wishing you all peace and joy in this beautiful time of year. May you have a joyful and thankful heart and peaceful rest tonight. God loves you and so do I.
