Responding to the No Kings Rally

Today, the "No Kings" rally happened at the Capitol and in cities all over the country. I made every effort not to be near where they were. On the way to the library book sale this morning I went by the high school and saw them setting up. I found out when and where the rally was to take place, and planned on being nowhere near the place at all. Fortunately, they were planning it from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. I had a great time today not participating in it. I was glad the people who are interested had a time and a place to gather for that, and I am going to do everything I can not to say anything offensive here, but I have to be honest, I feel bad about it, mostly because this division has become very personal for me, as I have family members who are so angry with me for not agreeing with them that they can't even speak to me, and that does hurt. I see on Facebook lots of people saying if the opponents of this movement were "fascists," or if Trump were a "fascist," they would not be allowed to have these things and I tend to agree, in a way, but, on the other hand, freedom of speech seems to be a valued tenet for most Americans, and Americans have always demonstrated for this or that as long as I can remember. I have been very close to at least one person who was a hater of the person who is now the president. We had our animated exchanges, I guess you could call them, and then it was over. We loved each other, and that didn't change anything about our friendship, but there are other people who seem to be unable to do that, and it is painful, but they are free to not speak to me. If the shoe had been on the other foot, would I have participated in the rally? Probably not, simply because I would only attend a rally that was a Christian rally, and even then, I'm not crazy about it. I don't like looking for a parking place at the Capitol, for one thing, but if I go with someone who doesn't mind parking at the Capitol and if we go early enough to get a good parking place, I may go. But the No Kings rally was definitely not a Christian event; in fact, what occurred to me was that these people don't want God to be king. For one thing, it's all based on hatred of this man that we have all observed for the past decade or so, and it's frankly getting very old, but when you see it for what it is you can pray about it because it is a spiritual problem. And God’s word has the answer for that. "The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..." (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). So, what my response is about the No Kings rally is to pray, oh, and by the way 1 Timothy 2:1-7 says we are supposed to "pray for kings and all those who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all..." And so, that sums up my response to the No Kings rally. Until next time...
