Pray the Hate Away
This has been a rough week for a lot of us. The shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday created quite a stir in the country, from his enemies and from his friends.
There are different heart conditions people can have, and the principle that keeps ringing in my heart is God's promise to take out the stony heart and replace it with a heart of flesh. There are, of course, lots of references to the heart all through the Bible, but Ezekiel 11:19-20 and 36:26-27 are the ones that have been speaking to me all week.
"Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, that they may walk in My statues and keep My judgments and do them, and they shall be My people, and I will be their God" (Ezekiel 11:19-20).
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. I will put My spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will keep My judgments and do them" (Ezekiel 36:26-27).
Tonight I want to share with you the lyrics to a song I wrote in 2017, and I think the words are even more appropriate today.
Pray the Hate Away © 2017
Lyrics by Carolyn Cogswell
This world is getting crazier than it’s ever been before
We haven’t been so divided since before the Civil War
Brother against brother, the war of words in full array
So offended at each other, we don’t know what to say
But if we could, I think we should join our hearts today
Agree to disagree and pray the hate away
Pray the hate away; Lord, heal our land today
Bring us back again from where we’ve gone astray
Pray the hate away; Lord, heal our land today
Hear us, Prince of Peace, as we pray the hate away
I am very sad to see so much hatred in the world and especially our country today. But I am trusting God like never before. I know that God is working out his plans for the world and for the people in the world. It is our own responsibility to seek God and get our hearts right with him. No one can do it for us.
I don't have a lot more to say tonight. I just wanted to share those words because they are my prayer and I hope many will agree with the words and I pray that some day you will hear the song but I haven't figured out how to get it out there yet. In any case the words speak for themselves.
I don't even know how to navigate the new version of Word that is on my computer now. It can't find this song and it used to be there. Perhaps God will bring me someone to help me find a way to get this song out to people because everybody who loves God should be able to sing it. And that's all I have right now. I have to get ready for Monday morning. Goodnight.
