God will Avenge Injustice

Having been a victim of violent crime, I find great assurance in the Bible that God avenges injustice, either in this life or in the next. I actually believe in both. In the 13th chapter of Second Samuel (2 Samuel), we see the rape of Tamar, a daughter of King David, committed by Amnon, apparently a brother by a different mother. (Amnon refers to her as "my brother Absolom's sister.") In Chapter 12 the Prophet Nathan had told King David what God had spoken about the terrible judgments that would fall on the house of David because of David's great sin with Bathsheba, conceiving a child with her and having her husband killed in battle. We see these things beginning to come to pass very soon. One of David's sons, Amnon, desired Tamar, Absolom's sister. He got his friend Jonadab to help him make that happen. Jonadab told Amnon to lay down and pretend to be ill and ask the king to send Tamar in to make some cakes for him and feed him by hand. David actually falls for this, Tamar goes into Amnon's house, he lures her into the bedroom proceeds to commit this crime upon Tamar as she resists. After he commits the crime, he "hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her" (verse 15). He sends her away and has a servant bolt the door. Absolom finds out from Tamar what happened, and at first he says to her, "'But now , hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother; do not take this thing to heart.' King David heard about it was "very angry," but he did nothing about it, and two years later, Absolom has Amnon killed and ten Absolom flees. David mourned his son, but who knows if he regretted having Tamar go see Amnon. At any rate, Amnon got what he deserved. There is another good story about revenge for a rape in Genesis 34, but I don't have time today to tell about it. These stories are both very encouraging to me. They tell me that God avenges injustice and looks after women who are preyed upon by men. This is all I have at this time. Got to go get ready. Have a happy Saturday!
