A TIME TO DANCE

A TIME TO DANCE I read a novel - a Christian novel by Karen Kingsbury just to see what all the fuss was about. Think it was called A Time to Dance, something like that. Anyway it's about a couple who decide to divorce as soon as they marry their daughter off. Seems the marriage began to fail as each got too caught up in their careers and now it is rumored that the husband has gotten involved with a coworker. Included is a passage written by, don't remember for sure, their son, maybe (I tend to read novels fast just to find out what happens), about the mating ritual of bald eagles and how, as he described it in a paper he wrote, the female, when she notices the male is interested, flies up really high and then freefalls, plummeting toward the ground. The male is supposed to save her and he does this by grabbing her talons with his and if he doesn't save her, he could die. Somewhere I read about a male being injured this way. Anyway, the husband hears God's message in this story and decides to be an eagle again. He has been backsliding with the sexy, unsaved colleague where he teaches and coaches. But he has not been having an affair. He has only kissed her twice. Of course the story has a happy ending. I enjoyed it, although it took me since last summer to read it. I have also discovered that I read to escape. Confession!!! Doesn't matter what it is. Sometimes it's really worth reading, sometimes, just barely, but usually has some social or spiritual redeeming value, although I usually lose interest and don't finish the book. I guess we all like to escape. Even the Psalmist David said he wished he could fly away so don't act so spiritual. Next, I am going to enjoy reading The Idiot by Dostoevsky on recommendation of my brother David Cogswell as soon as the right translation comes in on interlibrary loan. Happy reading, everybody! I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. Psalm 55:6
