Dear Christians:
We have to remember that people living without the Spirit, outside the Lordship of Christ, do not have a clue what it even means to be led by the spirit of God. Their minds are in darkness and ensnared by sin and all we can really do is pray for them and love them and try to reason with them as best we can. Winsome, is the word.
We have to be careful, especially when even believers disagree on so many things... Unbelievers think it's our "religion," our "faith" and our "rights" that we're all about. They just think it's another alternative philosophy and don't get why we're so adamant about it. Personally, if I didn't believe there was a hell where people are headed if they're not born again, and if I didn't believe that being set free from sin and knowing God was the only thing worth living for as well as being the only hope of the world, I would just shut my mouth. Because it's not fun to be rejected and thought of as a nut all the time.
They don't see because they can't. Only God can help them. All our Bible quoting, as much as we love to do it, is kind of like throwing spaghetti on a wall, I'm thinking. We need to do better. It's not even a matter of how much of the Bible we know, but about how much of the Spirit of God is at work inside of us. Many times we are ensnared in our own stuff and don't even know it. We have to guard our hearts or else we just end up in a shouting match.
God has been merciful to us and loved us in our sins. Now, when it comes to speaking out and doing what the Holy Spirit is telling us to do, such as this lady who is in jail because she could not bring herself to sign off on gay marriage licenses? I don't know about you but I wouldn't have been able to do it either. Because I know one day I will face a holy God and give an account for my life. And I believe that God sent his Son into the world to pay the penalty of sin for everyone who would believe and rose again proving he was God. God is very merciful, very loving and does not want people to be lost. And he said I should please Him, not man, and obey laws only that don't come against His laws. People's souls are in the balance.
"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars--they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." Revelation 21:8
