The Answer to Anxiety
When you think you’re all alone, you’re not,
And it’s then you know He’s all you’ve got.
So don’t live life at breakneck speed.
Realize God is all you need.
Just a few lines of rhyme for you there. I am convinced that
our biggest problem is not realizing what we have in God. We hear a lot about
“who we are in Him,” but I think we should focus more on “Who He is in us.”
Let’s review the nature of God. This always helps me when
I’m struggling with something. First of all, God is omnipresent. In other
words, God is everywhere, all the time.
God’s Omnipresence
(He’s Everywhere)
Many Bible verses address God’s omnipresence. Proverbs 15:3:
“The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the
good.” Another one (Jeremiah 23:24) says, “Can a man hide himself in secret places
so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares
the Lord.” And remember what Jesus said. “I am with you always, even to the end
of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
God’s Omnipotence (He
Can Do Anything)
Verses declaring God’s omnipotence include Luke 1:37:
“Nothing will be impossible with God.” That“All things are possible with God” is
referenced in Mark 10:27, Mark 14:36, and Matthew 19:26. You will notice that
in Mark 14:36 Jesus is talking to His Father before going to the cross. It is
also where He says, “Nevertheless, not what I will but what You will.”
Perhaps we’d prefer not to be reminded of the fact that this
is where the rubber meets the road. It’s that thing called “trust.” In Jeremiah
32:27, God says, “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too
hard for me?” And we see in Romans 8:28 that God “makes all things work
together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to
His purpose.”
We can conclude from these and other passages that God can
do anything. Still He does what He wants. We can either be good with that or we
can rebel. The choice is ours. Yes, that hurts sometimes, but that’s when we
have to embrace the big picture of Who God is towards us. He is everywhere, He
can do anything, and He knows everything.

Finally, God is all-knowing. He knows everything. “So,” we
might think, “Why doesn’t He give me answers to the questions I have for Him
when I ask them? Or, “Why doesn’t He do anything about this or that if He knows
about it?” And so forth. These are all understandable concerns and God is OK
with us asking. He simply is not under any obligation to give us what we want
when we want it.
The Best Part
This is really the best part. He’s everywhere, He can do
anything, and He knows everything. That means He knows everything about me,
good and bad, from before I was even born, the Bible says.
So since He’s everywhere, can do anything and knows
everything about me and I have been forgiven for all my sins, that means that
(I think) He must love me. I know a lot of us struggle with this. We think
because life is hard then God must not love us. Because we equate love with
warm, fuzzy feelings, etc. Well, praise God for the warm, fuzzy feelings. There
are plenty of those.
But beyond warm, fuzzy feelings is the cold, hard reality of
life. It doesn’t get any easier, does it? But the good part is that for as long
as we are here in this dark place called Planet Earth in 2014 A.D. He is with
us and He is our provider, our Father, the lover of our souls. He is for us and
not against us. Nothing can separate us from His love. This is good news. Now
let’s be about our Father’s business because there are lots of folks that don’t
know this.
