Tried to dis-enroll from AARP Medicare Part D lately?
Just got off the phone with United Healthcare. I hope somebody sues them. The dear young man I spoke to says on Monday and Tuesday he fields back-to-back calls like mine trying to dis-enroll from the unnecessary prescription coverage called AARP Medicare Preferred Rx/ Medicare Part D. If you are employed and have healthcare and prescription coverage with your job, you don't need it.
Nine years ago, in my ignorance, I didn't understand this (and nobody bothered to explain it) so they have essentially been stealing from me every month all this time. At first it was $55. Then $62.20. Then $72.20. Now $85. I haven't needed prescription coverage at all since 2006 when I got off of five years of medicine prescribed after cancer surgery.
They gave me misinformation on the phone and in writing telling me I could call Medicare to dis-enroll (this is not who you call - you call United Healthcare), when the truth is that when you actually try to dis-enroll, they tell you that you can only dis-enroll during the "open enrollment period" that begins Oct. 11. I found this out in February. Four months ago. Only Four months to go...
If you refuse to pay it, you will be penalized and owe more money.
I am considering it my donation to the healthcare of fellow citizens and try not to think about the corporate executives rolling in our money like pigs in manure.
