How to Be Happy

Jesus Christ has helped me with problems I didn't even know I had. Anger, for example. I knew I had it, but I didn't know the extent of it. I was so used to it being there I just thought it was normal and if I kept trying harder I would get better. Or, of course, I could indulge in substances or behavior to alleviate it for awhile and the results were only temporary.

But after God became real to me I started to change. It's amazing to notice when inside your heart is peace and love and not reactions and judgments.

But if you never let God into your life you'll never know what that's like. You'll just keep trying to change yourself and make yourself happy and never fill the emptiness inside.

Jesus loves you, sir. Jesus loves you, madam. And I submit that if you have not known the love of God you have not even begun to live. It may feel like you have, but you really haven't.

I am not preaching a health and prosperity gospel. Following Christ is not easy. None of us ever becomes perfect people in this life, but after you're born again you do begin to live the life God intended you to live.

I have been reading "Don't Waste Your Life" by John Piper. In it he says the problem is often that people think their bliss or their passion could not possibly be the will of God, and that is their biggest mistake. They think that if they keep on living without God they will fulfill their potential and be happy. The truth is that the Creator made us and knows how to make us happy.

We are happy when we live for Him, to please him and to do whatever we can to help others be happy in Him because there is no other way to be truly happy.

We can't stop talking about Jesus because he changed our lives. Maybe you don't want to change your life. But the truth is in knowing and living for Jesus Christ.

Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”  Mark 8:34-38
