I Kicked Caffeine!

I have broken my addiction to caffeine (I used to get a headache if I didn't drink it). Now I don't have to drink it, and I think if I do, I get a headache the NEXT day. It's happened twice.

I broke the addiction by drinking one cup of tea with milk and sugar (my lifetime custom) two mornings Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 23,24). Then I believe the Lord directed me to drink 1/2 a cup of black coffee the third day (Friday). The fifth and sixth day (Saturday and Sunday) I had no caffeine and no headache (the two times I tried to quit before I got severe headaches and vomiting the second time).

It seems like I had a slight headache on Tuesday afternoon after drinking a cup of regular tea with milk and sugar the day before. This Saturday or Sunday I had a cup of tea and the next afternoon I had a headache, so I think I see a pattern here. Don't know what to do about it because I can't stand the taste of decaffeinated tea. I suppose I could just give it up completely for awhile. I know it has been a blessing not to HAVE to drink it every day so much that I depend on it too much to get me going. Now in the morning, I'd rather talk to God, read the Bible, etc. than immediately jump out of bed and put the kettle on. I think God appreciates that. Kind of the principle of the thing.

My nutrition teacher, Jane Tetuan, said the five "killer foods" are

1. animal products
2. sugar
3. salt
4. bleached flour
5. caffeine

I have to say I feel measurably better without this addiction to caffeine. I used to drink it four or five times a day and coffee any time there was any in sight. I was beat by midmorning and midafternoon and had to have it when I came home from work in the afternoon to pick me up. Now I have more energy, and am not a slave to the tea kettle. It's wonderful.

My friend Norma Wilfong wrote me today to wish me a Happy Fat Tuesday and mentioned that tomorrow was Ash Wednesday and time to give up "something good" for Lent. I don't typically give up something for Lent, but I have been on "Daniel Fast" since Jan. 23. I have started drinking almond milk instead of cow's milk, organic vegetables whenever possible and very little meat or cheese. I think I'll just keep doing that for awhile, maybe for the rest of my life.

I have lost weight. I was around 109 and now I'm back to 107, 106 and even 105, so that tells me that if you want to lose weight you can do all those things I mentioned.

I think the main thing is to love God and put healthy food into the temple of the Holy Spirit. I believe God wants us to be healthy, don't you?
