When God Pulls You Over
I am interrupting the autobiography for an indefinite period.
Have you ever been pulled over by God? I was pulled over by God last week at work. It was about being angry.
God has let me get away with it for a long time, maybe most of my life.
I apologize.
I ask for forgiveness.
I say, "God help me."
I keep trying to do it myself.
It was just like being pulled over for speeding.
I voiced my opinion too loudly, to the wrong people, and through emails.
I've been unhappy.
It's been showing.
People have been noticing.
I've been a grouch.
Finally, God pulled me over.
I don't blame the people for doing it. I know it was God.
I know I have a problem with anger.
Grumbling all the time.
Murmuring.
Grousing.
Complaining.
Negativity.
Being critical.
Finding fault.
God doesn't like it.
It doesn't matter if I don't like the way people treat me.
It doesn't matter if I don't like the way they do things at work.
It doesn't matter if I do not like my circumstances.
It doesn't matter if they leave me out of the loop,
if they don't listen to me,
if they don't agree with me,
if they don't care about my opinion.
It doesn't matter.
None of that matters.
What matters is admitting if I'm wrong and then not just admitting it, but letting God pull me over.
God pulled me over.
I can hear the sirens behind me.
Slow down, girl, let's deal with this.
I know it was God.
I wanted to say, "What about the other people? Why aren't they being written up? Why aren't they being called on the carpet? Why, why, why?"
"This isn't about them," He said. "This is about you."
That's when I know God is a father who disciplines His children.
That's when I know He loves me the way I am but He loves me too much to leave me that way.
"Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the same, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.
You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin." Hebrews 12:1-4
The "wherefore" before the "therefore" here is God has provided "something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us" (Hebrews 11:40)
We are in this with all the saints and sinners that have gone before us. The body of Christ.
God, speaking through Nathan the Prophet, spoke to David in 2 Samuel 7:11, saying, basically, "Don't build me a house. I'm going to build you a house....
"And your house and your kindgom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever." (2 Samuel 7:16)
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of that prophecy. His house. His kingdom. Because He was a descendent of David and because His is the house that will be established forever.
I have not been to Bible college, so correct me if I'm wrong.
God cares for you and me more than we realize in an average day. He wants to make us like Christ. So when the chastening comes, let us embrace it. Let us embrace Him. Let us rejoice, fear Him and Him only, for, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)
I would love to write up a study of Hebrews 12 and Romans 8 right about now but my time is slipping away.
I hope this has been an encouragement to someone.
